Kelani is an adorable 3-year-old who was diagnosed with ALL in April 2021. She lives at home with her mother, grandparents, two uncles, and 7-year-old cousin.
Kelani's mother recently switched jobs and has no FMLA protection. To help, Kelani's grandmother provides their transportation to and from the hospital and appointments.
Her grandmother has also taken time off from her two jobs to split the caregiving duties with Kelani's grandfather. This way, Kelani's mom can continue working, but the loss of income from her grandmother's jobs has put financial strain on the family.
"When you have unforeseen circumstances, it sometimes takes a lot out of you mentally & physically."
With the assistance of the Hands for Holly Memorial Fund, a grant was issued to help assist with their mortgage while the family focuses on Kelani's care. An additional Family Reach grant was sent to the family to help with food expenses.
Along with providing these emergency grants, a Financial Guidebook was provided to the family and a referral was made to a pro-bono certified financial planner through the Family Reach Financial Planning for Cancer program.
Kelani's mom says, "I can't thank you enough, nor find the words to express how thankful we are. Your foundation's help has allowed me to be able to get and stay on track.
When you have unforeseen circumstances, it sometimes takes a lot out of you mentally & physically. I enjoyed speaking with the financial advisor that I was referred to and we see positive things for the future.
"Kelani is doing great with treatments, she has had a few bumps but is getting stronger every day."
